KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 67 express buses have been found to be unfit to ferry passengers during the Hari Raya holidays.

Road Transport Department (JPJ) deputy director-general Datuk Ismail Ahmad said out of 938 buses, 871 were given the go-ahead.

“Buses which have failed will have to go through another check to be deemed roadworthy,” he said at Pudu Sentral here yesterday.

Ismail said 1,600 department officers had been deployed under Ops Selamat to ensure that road safety is maintained during the festive season.

“Some of our officers will go undercover as bus passengers to ensure that the drivers follow the rules,’’ he added.Ismail said 38 drivers were fined on Monday for reckless driving and for driving buses that were not roadworthy.

He also said the JPJ would check on motorcyclists.“The statistics on last year’s Ops Sikap revealed that 60% of fatal road accidents involved motorcyclists and their passengers,” he added.

In IPOH, enforcement officers will be stationed at 15 black spots during the Hari Raya period.State JPJ director Ramli Awang Seberang said the 15 locations were known to be accident-prone, where fatal traffic accidents had been reported.

Ramli said the locations included Jalan Ipoh-Lumut (KM31), Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Kangsar (KM22), Jalan Gopeng-Simpang Pulai (KM2.5), Jalan Ipoh-Butterworth (KM100), Jalan Ipoh-Taiping (KM50), Jalan Teluk Intan-Bidor (KM14), Jalan Teluk Intan-Sabak Bernam (KM7), Jalan Sitiawan-Kayan (KM32), Jalan Air Tawar-Beruas (KM32), Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur (KM73.1), Jalan Gerik-Kupang (KM7.2), Jalan Gerik-Lenggong (KM8), Jalan Gerik-Jeli (KM13), Jalan Kuala Kangsar-Gerik (KM49) and Jalan Ipoh-Taiping (KM40).

“Besides that, we will carry out mobile patrolling beginning from the toll area near Parit Buntar right up to Tanjung Malim.

“We do not want people to use the emergency lane and will monitor other possible offences road users are prone to commit,” he told reporters during an operation carried out at the Medan Gopeng express bus terminal near here yesterday.

Msinc TBO-Seperti kata Pak Din....67 express buses not roadworthy, semua kena periksa PUSPAKOM 6 bulan sekali, macam mana boleh not roadworthy, kalau macam tu semua bas di Malaysia tak selamat..?So ..kepada semua anak kampong yang budiman..tolonglah berhati hati semasa memandu dalam perjalanan kekampung..ingat le mak apak kome yang nunggu diromah tu.Check kenderaan kome..check tayar, brek dan sebagai.Pastikan kome cukup tidor..kalau ngantok..berenti rehat..Kalau naik bas check sikit keadaan bas tu..kalau rasa lain macam jer..jangan naik.. Semoga Hari Raya tahun ini dapat disambut sebaik yang mungkin.

Satu perkara yang tidak munasabah yang boleh berlaku di Malaysia:
"46 express bus drivers found positive for drugs under Op Selamat, says JPJ"
Macam mana ini boleh berlaku memandangkan setiap pemandu bas dikehendaki menjalankan pemeriksaan kesihatan setiap tahun sebelum boleh mendapat PSV. Dimana silapnya.

Apakah negara kita sudah gila,
"Solah said the launch of 'Op Selamat' on Aug 12, JPJ has inspected 1,470 buses and 975 of them were found to have brake problems and the tyres were in poor condition."
